It is the central aim of the Austrian Ecolabel to inspire its Educational institutions as well as its teachers, non-teaching staff members and customers to take over responsibility for themselves and for their actions and to become active for the purposes of a sustainable future. The Austrian Ecolabel awards educational institutions which take account of the principles of sustainable development as a guideline for a future-proof development. Preventive environmental management and education for sustainable development are the crucial demands of this Ecolabel Guideline Educational Institutions can reach, by means of a status quo analysis of their environmental situation and the educational programme as well as of the resulting goals, a considerable quality increase.
The educational institution must have an educational programme of its own (sub-organisations or courses of study can also be certified, if it is internally and externally clearly communicated for which locations including educational programme the Eco-label is awarded). The educational offers are freely accessible to everybody who is interested.
Criteria
The catalogue of criteria comprises of compulsory criteria from the fields of education for sustainable development and environmental management.
In addition to the mandatory criteria to be complied with the educational institution has also the possibility to gain some points for directory criteria by means of implementation of their own initiatives.
With the first audit all criteria are to be implemented and the plans of measures are to be defined. At the follow-up certification after four years all criteria are examined, however, in particular the implementation of the measures which were laid down during the first audit as well as the continuous and the composite criteria.
The costs of application, first certification, as well as the utilisation of the label are calculated on the basis of the number of staff members of the educational institution.
