InterContinental Wien
Johannesgasse 281030 Wien
Vienna, Austria
The InterContinental® Vienna was founded across from Stadtpark in 1964 as the city’s first international hotel and has been one of the Danube metropolis’s most prestigious establishments for over 50 years. The hotel offers 459 guest rooms and suites, 1,200 square metres of conference space, and a full range of culinary services, including a restaurant, a traditional Viennese coffeehouse, and a classic American bar which is very popular in the local market.
Sustainability and social responsibility
Sustainability and social responsibility have been top priorities at the InterContinental Vienna for years and are strongly anchored in all of the hotel’s departments. The ecological impact of individual processes and procedures is evaluated on a regular basis. For its efforts in these areas, the hotel was awarded the Austrian Eco Label in 2013. In addition the hotel is liable to the strict criteria of Green Engage, IHG’s (InterContinental Hotels Group) own global environmental program.
For the InterContinental Vienna, however, responsibility is not limited to just ecological aspects but also includes other areas such as social equity and culture. In the Human Resources department, where diversity plays a major role thanks to the hotel’s roughly 270 employees from 30 countries, equal opportunity and embracing diversity are at the heart of the staffing policy.
Emphasis is also placed on social and ecological responsibility in the organisation of the Food & Beverage department. Attention is focused here not just on quality but also on the origins of the food and beverages served. Our culinary concept is centred on seasonal and regional products. Also the hotel offers selected FairTrade products such as coffee in Café Vienna and orange juice in the minibars.
