Heavy pedal - fast, efficient and climate-friendly on the road
It is well known that bicycle delivery services are vastly superior to trucks (HGVs) and cars in terms of speed and efficiency in inner-city areas.
Not only due to the pandemic are delivery services steadily on the rise, but even before that, intelligent or sustainable logistics concepts, especially in inner cities, posed a special challenge. Besides the lack of space and noise emissions, it is above all the carbon footprint that speaks for the use of cargo bikes.
It is well known that bicycle delivery services are vastly superior to HGVs and cars in terms of speed and efficiency in inner-city areas. This phenomenon applies all the more to the so-called "last mile". Cargo bikes also score points for flexible access and can get to places where cars can't, such as driveways, pedestrian zones, parks or forests. In most cases, access by bike is possible as far as the lift or the storage room - and even further with freight elevator in company buildings.
The economic advantages of using cargo bikes include the comparatively lower acquisition costs, cheaper service and operating costs, and the avoidance of parking fees.
Cargo bikes are also emission-free, space-saving (on roads and car parks), quiet and keep inner-city air clean. Above all, they avoid CO2 emissions. This is a factor that should not be underestimated, also with customers who are attaching more and more importance to the CO2 balance.

The company "Heavy Pedals GmbH" from Vienna-Margareten holds the Ecolabel "Low-Emission Transport Systems" and is made up of a young, committed team that manages climate-friendly logistics by using cargo bicycles. As the first company in Austria to be audited according to this guideline, the company is proud of this unique selling point in the logistics industry.
Since 2009, "Heavy Pedals" has been transporting various general cargo such as printed goods, parcels, food, drinks, etc. by cargo bike. Up to one Euro pallet with a volume of 2 m3 and a payload of 250 kg per wheel are possible. The company pays attention to resource-saving management, as a large part of the IT infrastructure consists of used, so-called "refurbished" equipment. Only 100% green electricity is used to charge the electrically assisted cargo bikes.
Recently, the company was one of the four winners of the "Environmental Management Award 2022". The presentation of the Environmental Management Award 2022 as part of the annual Environmental Management Conference took place this time at the University of Salzburg. In addition to the avoidance of CO2 and noise emissions, the jury also highlighted the high social commitment of the company from Vienna-Margareten.
