Polytechnische Schule Wien 3
Maiselgasse 11030 Wien
Vienna, Austria
The prevocational school of the third district is quietly located at the end of a one-way - street, embedded in the ecological development area “Erdberger Stadtwildnis”. (http://www.wien.gv.at/umweltschutz/umweltgut/oeke-erdberg.html)
The U3 station Schlachthausgasse and the Baumgasse station of tram line 18 are in the immediate vicinity and, together with the constantly growing cycle lane network, ensure good accessibility.
The architecture of the building, built in 1997, is reminiscent of a ship in the middle of the wilderness, a symbol of the fact that the provided training leads the students to the safe haven of an apprenticeship.
Our main task is to specifically support students for one year and to raise them to be responsible young people so that they can decide on a further career or educational path over the course of the school year.
The practical lessons are divided into 11 subject areas so that the right career profile can be taught for all of the students' interests and talents.
As part of the Vienna Education Guarantee, young people are supported in their search for an apprenticeship by the youth coaches led by the “m.o.v.e on” project, which works directly at the school.
Since we also attach great importance to extracurricular skills, we have decided to become an environmentally certified school. At the end of the 2014/2015 school year we passed the initial test for this label. This confirms that we stand for contemporary teaching that pays attention to the environment and sustainability. It is intended to help our students understand how to use our world's resources sensibly, the energy available to us and the waste problem.
