At the Vienna State Opera, sustainability is not just a word, but a core value to which our house is fully committed. As one of the leading cultural institutions, we are aware of our responsibility we bear towards our environment. Organisations of our size consume many resources – this includes energy, materials for scenery production, and more. Therefore, we actively strive to reduce our consumption of resources as much as possible. Transparency plays a key role, as we not not only aim to lead by example but also to inspire others by disclosing our processes and promoting sustainable practices. Thus, obtaining the Austrian Ecolabel for music theatre was an essential and significant step in living up to our role model function in culture.
