The Haus der Natur is more than just a natural history museum
- It combines exhibitions with an aquarium, a reptile and amphibian zoo and an interactive science centre on over 7,000 m2. As Salzburg's largest and most popular museum, it can look back on over 100 years of success.

In cooperation with the province of Salzburg, Haus der Natur runs the Auenwerkstatt nature and education centre in the Natura 2000 area near Weitwörth-Nußdorf. The educational programme is primarily aimed at school classes, but also offers an excursion and nature experience programme for adults and families.

The Haus der Natur operates one of the most powerful public observatories in Europe on the Haunsberg. It has two telescopes that are used for research as well as for guided tours.
