The art of rethinking at the vorarlberg museum
Since September 2023, the vorarlberg museum has been the proud bearer of the Austrian Ecolabel. As such, the vorarlberg museum is not only committed to addressing environmental issues in a technical way, but also to sustainable management in its its daily routines.
Actions not words
The vorarlberg museum strives to implement concrete measures to conserve resources and is in a continuous process of further development. The measures already implemented include
- A heat pump provides modern heating and cooling technology.
- A photovoltaic system supplies the museum with 58 KW/h peak electronic power.
- A greater range of temperature (21-23°) and humidity (50-55%) is permitted.
- The light sources have been converted to LED lamps.
- A process has been started to develop exhibition architecture that is consistently reusable.
- Ecological cleaning agents are used where this is already possible. A complete switch to ecological products is planned.
In addition, sustainability efforts focus on strengthening regional value creation, also through cooperation with regional (craft) businesses, extensive waste separation and thoughtful employee mobility (free public transport to work, no flights...).
The exhibition 'buchstäblich vorarlberg'
The permanent exhibition 'buchstäblich vorarlberg' presents significant and less significant items from the museum's rich collection, illustrating a piece of the collection's and contemporary history. Selected finds from the floor cleaning will mingle with the permanent exhibits. The vorarlberg museum invites its visitors to adopt a new perspective. Because garbage is not just garbage - it tells us stories about our relationship to things and the world. The current exhibition of seemingly ordinary objects invites visitors to question their consumption habits and encourages a more conscious use of resources.
